Ukishima Gyro Aluminium  – Michell Gyrodec and Orbe Performance Pack

The Michell Gyrodec Aluminium Performance Pack is a specific performance set for Michell turntables. We have produced a hybrid to combine the aesthetic of the aluminium with the sound of the African Blackwood. The feet are effectively an aluminium and blackwood laminate. The polished aluminium on the outside compliments the suspension towers particularly well. The sonic elegance and musicality of the blackwood gives a substantial sound improvement over the standard aluminium feet. These feet being particularly well suited to electronic music. They are just a little brighter than the ebony and give remarkably crisp top end detail. There seemed to be an age preference here too with older ears preferring the pure blackwood for it’s smoothness but maybe the music choice of different generations plays a part in this. The difference between the two is subtle, both sound delightful.

The pack is designed to compliment the aesthetic of the beautiful Michell Gyrodec and Orbe turntables. It comprises three modified Ukishima 6 or 10 feet and a turned billet aluminium motor spacer. The spacer is to compensate for the feet being 22mm taller than the standard cones. It offers a superior sound upgrade and additional damping for the adjustable spring mechanism in the standard unit. We think it also presents the turntable in a more majestic way.

The Gyrodec has springs to suspend the turntable and allow for levelling adjustment. The springs can be quite microphonic, so the damping afforded by the magnetic suspension helps to reduce this noise. It also lets the turntable settle quickly to stillness, where the undamped springs let the setup bounce around for several seconds, when you release the downward pressure from the record clamp. The cork faced feet also have a better grip on slippery surface like polished stone, so the turntable does not slide around so much when used.
We know the Gyrodec very well and love the way it looks, so it was important to compliment the unique aesthetic of this iconic turntable and we think we have achieved this. The materials and shapes really look the part and could have come with the deck as standard equipment. In tests the feet made considerably more sound improvement than spending an extra £500 on the stylus. The magnetic field is also well contained and does extend anywhere near the sensitive signal path, so we are confident you would not be disappointed with this product on any level.”
