Description

Ukishima Gyro Blackwood – Michell Gyrodec and Orbe African Blackwood performance pack

The Michell Gyrodec Blackwood performance pack is our new extraordinary pack for the magnificent Michell Gyrodec and Orbe turntables. The African Blackwood used to make the feet raises the performance of the turntable to a whole new level which has to be heard to be believed. The detail, delicacy and size of the sound stage are all improved, voices have more air and warmth, in short we are very pleased with ourselves for developing this.  This set is specifically designed to compliment the aesthetic of the Michell Orbe turntables, though it looks very well on the Gyrodec too.

It comprises three modified Blackwood Ukishima 6 or 10 feet and a motor spacer to compensate for the feet being taller than the standard cones. It offers a very significant sound upgrade and additional damping for the adjustable spring mechanism in the standard unit. African Blackwood has a reputation for making superb quality instruments and for being “the most expensive wood in the world”.

The Gyrodec and Orbe have springs to suspend the turntable and allow for leveling adjustment. The springs can be quite microphonic, so the damping afforded by the magnetic suspension really helps to reduce this noise. It also lets the turntable settle quickly to stillness, where the undamped springs let the setup bounce around for several seconds, when you release the downward pressure from the record clamp.

We know the Gyrodec and Orbe turntables very well and love the way they look, so it is important for us to compliment the unique aesthetic of these iconic turntables and we think we have achieved this. The materials and shapes really look the part and could have come with the deck as standard equipment. In tests both the Pack and Pylons made considerably more sound improvement than spending an extra £500 on the stylus or any other modification we have found. The magnetic field is also well contained and does extend anywhere near the sensitive signal path, so we are confident you would not be disappointed with this product on any level.

There is a black motor spacer option available as a different colour choice, viewable here. This will give an all black look to this performance pack.

We have a video to show how to install the performance packs, in can be viewed here .

This pack also compliments the Solidair Audio Pylons which completely eliminates the unruly behavioral aspects of the springs. With both modifications in place, the background is so quiet that with clean vinyl you may think you are listening to a reel to reel tape machine. For the ultimate giant slaying performance, also add our armbord isolation solution, The Trinty, for a turntable to compete with the best in the world.

Makes every aspect of the music more authoritative. Highly recommended.

I am absolutely blown away by the difference the Ukishima feet make to my listening pleasure. My Gyrodec is one of the older decks with flat rubber feet. Since replacing them with the Ukishima Gyro Blackwood 30kg feet I have noted that the bass is deeper, vocals are richer and have more depth to them. Instruments are now better defined, with better separation, richness and a wider soundstage. I am now able to hear individual instruments instead of them previously being somewhat merged with others. Together with my other Solider Audio upgrades of ‘The Trinity’ armboard suspension and ‘The Pylons’ spring upgrade, my Gyrodec sound so much better than standard. I truly believe that my £1200 Charisma Audio MC-2 phono cartridge now sounds like a £4000 reference cartridge.. Very highly recommended!
